I’m alive, I just haven’t thought about blogging for awhile. I’ve been transitioning jobs, getting a surgery, dealing with lawsuits (I won), and trying to save the world.

I just made my first real complaint to my new place of work and wanted to share some thoughts. Let’s just jump into it.

I got into a lot of “trouble” last year speaking my mind bluntly. It’s not something I’m used to, being from Boston. I used to be able to tell my boss someone was a cunt and he’d be like alright chillll let’s figure this out. But recently I haven’t worked for Boston based companies and they haven’t appreciated it… even if I didn’t use those words.

They seem to not like being told the code written is “trash”. Trash is triggering to them… but I thought it was most fitting.

I told my last employer that the 8 people working on their product for 6 months, while only being able to product 3 semi-usable pages in that time span, was a waste of time and money, and the code they wrote was trash. Yes, trash. It was buggy and filled with “experimental” tech, that they they were constantly replacing because they would find unfixable bugs and lack of support. Color me shocked. They fired me :(. But I sued and got 30k out of them after they were offering 2. I tricked them in the end, because it’s easy to do that to cavemen. A story for another time I suppose.

So this time, I tried telling the director in a more nice way. She put her pet in charge of the new component library. It’s trash, written like a true hipster had free reign. I pointed out how it still encourages us to make the same mistakes, how it’s not even close to how anyone has ever made a component library, and how some of it just doesn’t make any fucking sense. We have a button, we have an icon button, but the icon is optional on an icon button, so… it’s just a button? Why do I need that? I don’t.

I even went as far as to ask my friend who isn’t tech savy what he thought the difference between a button and icon button would be and send her the screenshot. He said the icon button would have an image. Ding ding ding! Was that so hard? Someone who has never written a line of code in their life guessed right, why can’t you?

So I asked to take it all over. It’s not even something I’m passionate about, but these children can’t be trusted to make a button button or an icon button button with an icon, so here we are Hopefully it was soft enough for non-Boston engineers to handle. If not, I’m sure another lawsuit will form when they fire me for telling them things they don’t want to hear.

Already looking for a new job, because believe it or not the person responsible for all of that is probably their best engineer. Also starting CBT therapy so I don’t jump off my roof dealing with these companies. If you don’t hear from me for awhile again then I’m dead or fired and suing again.

Lastly, bro… someone chose to have a kid, so we all chipped in to get them a gift at work. This happened while I was out recovering from surgery, I coughed up $20. What did I get during a risky, life changing, necessary surgery? Not a thing. Yeah, not doing that again. Thanks. I could have died. But yeah, grats on fucking.
